Fishing with Passion and Integrity
Hook and Leader sportfishing is based in South East Michigan, fishing out of Lake Erie’s Western Basin and Detroit River. We target Walleye and Perch
Capt. Geoff Eicholtz is a USCG licensed Captain endorsed with a 25-ton Master near coastal license and USCG tow license. Capt. Geoff is also a career firefighter/paramedic with a career that has spanned 19 years between two fulltime departments
World Class Fishery
Lake Erie and the tributaries we fish are home to one of the best fishing waterways for large walleye, yellow perch, musky and bass anywhere in North America. Each Spring through fall 10lb + walleye, 50” + musky and 5lb+ smallmouth are caught.
Tournament Grade Equipment
Your trip will be aboard a 22’ Triton 216 Fishunter powered by a 300hp Mercury Pro XS and a 9.9hp Mercury Pro Kicker. The quality equipment starts there and continues through every detail. From the custom made Grandt Rods and Pfluger reels. To the best plastics, custom painted crankbaits, and my own personally tied stinger hooks. We take pride in making your trip the finest it can be.
What if it rains
If it is not a severe downpour with lightning, the captain may fish (some of our best catches come in inclement weather). However, if I see that the weather is dangerous (lightning, strong winds) or we are not able to fish, we will gladly reschedule. The Capt will make the call.
What type of boat will we be on
You will be on a Triton 216 Fishunter with a 300hp Mercury. Top quality electronics from Lowrance and 2 top of the line Minnkota trolling motors on the boat fore and aft. All equipment is inspected annually by the State of Michigan.
How Long is a Trip
A typical trip runs 6 hrs dock to dock or until we catch our limit
What License do I need
All river charters will only require a Michigan Fishing License. Lake Erie varies on the time of year as to where we will want to fish. Sometimes Ohio will be better and then you will want an Ohio license.
What is provided with my trip
Hook and Leader Sportfishing provides you with all your rods, reels, tackle baits both artificial and live. We also will provide bottled water. Fish will be cleaned and bagged (Detroit River Only)
What should I bring
In order to be prepared for all weather, it is suggested that you bring clothing appropriate for the forecasted weather during your trip. Check out our resources page for current weather conditions. Sunscreen, lip balm, sunglasses, hat, rain gear, snacks and drinks any medication you may require before we get back to the dock.
